We offer a range of building options anywhere in New Zealand, from the supply of shell only kitset packages where you can use your own builder, right through to using a Customkit Network Builder who can manage your project for you.
 
We have an established supplier network throughout the North and South Island which allows us to supply a cost effective product and service wherever you live.
 
If you choose a kitset supply option we provide you or your builder with a comprehensive ‘Builder’s Bible’ which is a comprehensive guide including drawings and details covering all aspects of the construction and assembly process.

What are the steps involved in Building with Customkit?

We can assist you through the building process but the basic steps as a guideline include:
 
  1.  Introductory Design Meeting:
We discuss or meet with you to talk through your building plan ideas.  We have developed a wide range of plans which can be a great starting point or our design team can work with you to develop a building to suit your individual requirements. In most cases our clients have seen one of our plans on our website which can be modified to suit.  Alternatively we can start with a ‘blank canvas’ to create a unique plan for you.
If you are considering a Barn which you wish to live in it must comply with the building regulations for both the residential section as well as the barn/ancillary area. Customkit Homes and Barns with Accommodation meet this criteria.
Customkit offers a range of building options from the supply of shell only kitset packages right through to a complete design and build service using our builder network. If you do not have a specific builder in mind Customkit can organize one of their Network Builders for you. 
  1. Concept Design and Cost Estimation:
A Customkit Sales representative will develop a preliminary design and cost estimate of your building based on the discussions that we have with you.  Our team has a wealth of experience in the industry with a combined building knowledge of over 150 years  and this ‘specialist’ building knowledge is invaluable in terms of assisting our clients develop a building that is cost effective and also takes into account specific site conditions eg wind and seaspray zones, earthquake conditions, snow levels etc. 
  1.  Acceptance of Estimate and Draft Plan:
On acceptance of the estimate for your building you will then sign an account application and pay a deposit.
The design team will then move forward with the development of your draft plans.
This involves the drawing of floor plans and elevations, having the preliminary engineering done for both the building structure and wind zone, making any changes to the actual plan you may ask for around layout, room sizes, window positions, access ways etc.  Once draft plans are completed and signed off we will be able to complete your pricing and finalise your contract.
 
  1.  Development of Building Consent Drawings:
Once you have approved the draft plans our drawing team will develop your building consent drawings, ready for lodging with your local Council/Territorial Authority. The time frame on this will depend on the type of building and building complexity.
 
  1. Consent Drawings  Lodged for Building Consent:
In all cases Customkit will prepare all the relevant forms required to lodge your building consent and in some instances Customkit is able to lodge your plans for approval with the appropriate Council.  Council time frames do vary again depending on building type as well as any specific Council requirements pertaining to your site and your location. 
 
  1. Building Consent Issued:
As soon as we get consent your building will then move into the production stage. Customkit will liaise with you and your builder to schedule and coordinate time lines and delivery dates for your building.
