The Customkit Story
The company began in 1993 in partnership with Pukekohe Timber and the company ‘Customkit Buildings Ltd’
was formed in 1997 by the current owner Michael Anselmi. Michael saw the opportunity to add value to the pure timber range of buildings on offer and developed a range to kit set buildings to appeal to a range of market segments.
The company’s head office and fabrication plant is based in Pukekohe, South Auckland and has a staff of 11. The kit set buildings are supplied to our North Island clients via our Pukekohe office and via Carters in Wellington, and in the South Island we have relationships with Carters in Christchurch, Nelson, Blenheim and Dunedin.
Customkit is a 100% owned and operated and offers a range of building options from the supply of kitset packages right through to a complete design and build service using our rane of network buildders. Being all timber construction makes for easy on site assembly.
The business began specialising in barns, sheds and other lifestyle buildings, and barns with accommodation.
There are a number of elements that make Customkit a special and unique business. One is that it uses quality materials, sourced and manufactured from renewable resources throughout New Zealand.
The depth of knowledge within the business is impressive too, with the Customkit team collectively having over 150 years industry experience.
The challenge was for us to become a company that people would feel at home coming to talk to about houses.
“Some said this was a big move for a small business in Pukekohe, but we knew we were up to the task. Twenty three years on we’ve become a nationwide building company that, as evidence shows, owns the lifestyle housing space and niche in the marketplace.”
Ecospan was launched in 2011 and is the commercial arm of Customkit fulfilling the increasing demand for wood which offers an excellent alternative to concrete and steel in commercial applications and is a preferred fabricator of Carter Holt Harvey Wood Products.
Ecospan are members of the Timber Design Society Inc and are also licensed designers and fabricators for ‘STIC’ (Structural Timber Innovation Company” the developers of EXPAN structural timber solutions. This enables the company to manufacture and supply LVL portal and beam systems plus other componentry for large multistory commercial buildings.
